– Improved Avatar 2.0 dummy –

Okay, right after i posted the thing about fitted mesh and other stuff and how i dont know when im gonna do the dummy, i thought well, fuck it, i aint got anything better to do today anyway so i might as well just start working on it, and so, here it is.

The Avatar 2.0 mesh dummy v2

meshdummy I have updated the shape of the head and shoulders to match the current Avatar 2.0 shape more closely, but more importantly, i have added the much requested boob sizes too. Each boob size is in a separate object layer.

For those who arent familiar with what this is, the Avatar 2.0 mesh dummy is a tool for people who want to develop mesh clothing and other stuff for the Avatar 2.0.

You can use it as a shape guide if you wanna make clothing for Avatar 2.0.
You can use it as a rigging tool along with the bone weight copy script, by copying its weights onto your mesh clothing or character.
You can use it as a learning tool to learn rigging and experiment on it.

  3. Hey there! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog
platform are you using for this site? I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives
for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point
me in the direction of a good platform.

Thanks for this awesome release .
Now the silly question , when i make clothes for the 2.0 avatar , should i rig it only on the skeleton or should i choose the skeleton AND the dummy model in order to obtain a better result ?

Hope I see some new cloths for these soon :-)

    Uti! You should have kept the detail on the feet! I had to use trial and error to make my loafers fit the 2.0 feet because the dummy and the real thing have different feet sizes! D;

It’s perfectly understandable if you don’t answer this; it isn’t even the proper blog post to ask under, but I will try my luck anyway. How does one go about creating a Complete Avatar for SL? I know how to use 3d modelling tools and graphics editing software and I can model a character from start to finish so it’s not a “which magic button should I press” kind of question.
I mean, can one just create a character in any 3d app and then export it to SL supported format, or must a character be based on some base mesh/rig made by SL devs.
Maybe there is a guide for noobs that I missed during my google search…?

    • Asami says:

It has to match the SL rig, be exported in Collada format, and cannot have more than 8 texture faces per mesh-object. You can do some trickery with editing vertex normals across multiple linked objects if you want more texture faces (for making hidable sections like Avatar 2.0) There are other random limitations, like a maximum number of vertices per material face, and also the number and names of vertex groups, but those can be found elsewhere, or you can look at the dummy file linked here for an example.

    • yeah what asami said

How can I separate the different sizes of the avatar to work with them in Marvellous?
