– A roadblock for the furry avatar project –

Okay so, the avatar is now done and is being scripted, but i have ran into a serious problem, Linden labs, you done did it again.

By adding fitted mesh into the code, they broke existing mesh functionality like joint offsets. Joint offsets are needed for non standard humanoid and non humanoid avatars to function, this bug makes these avatars break your shape beyond fixing, requiring you to relog, it also makes it impossible to use any other shape that isnt the default LL female avatar shape with such avatars.

read more about it in this bug report https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-5841

What this means is that not only does this effect this project, it effectively breaks all my previous work that uses joint offsets, like the Rikugou avatar, or anything else made by any other creator. The only solution to this problem right now is either going back to viewers that dont support fitted mesh or using the default female avatar shape.

Thanks Obama.

That explains why a certain fitted mesh outfit i tried to wear last march made my mesh eyes pop out my head. then if i tried to adjust it by shape it would look fine but on relog i see my eyes were deep in my skull. I am hoping linden takes note and fixes this its an annoying bug.

  2. How can we help you?

Can we post in your Jira report a comment something like “i have this issue too”?

I has been waiting for this FIRST fitted mesh body, if we can do something for you tell us :)

    • well you could write a comment that you are experiencing a similar problem with your joint offset avatars, if lets say you have a rikugou or something, or maybe create a duplicate entry to show them the severity of this problem

  3. Yuki says:

I have seen a “liquid” mesh body somewhere in MP but I noticed that fitted mesh bodies not have the good shoulders of avatar 2.0 ( the feature of avatar 2.0 that I love ) and hands became really little and ugly.

    . . . . . Fuck.

  5. Venompapa says:

Well f*ck…. this rather ugly bug, i didnt even noticed this with my joint offset avatars but the Riku avatar now since her hands keep hanging in her hips what i was fixing up with a custom shape and now after attaching the body its resets completly :/

  6. eksynn says:

well dam.. this super-sucks. whenever i think they’re getting better at fixing something, they break if further >.< maybe they should just remake the entire ancient engine, make a "third life" project lol

i was really looking forward to this, too x.x

  7. Ink Blot says:

Does this mean you’ll postpone the avatar? Or do something temporary? Like just rigging it like the 2.0?

    • Venompapa says:

I would suggest rig it like the 2.0 but use a deform animation for it, since its not like a four legged avatar where better use offsetted boneset otherwise the rezzed body would look messed up its could work just with forcing a loop deform animation on the avatar from the body’s script since its would be scripted anyway, hell i would help with making a deformer animation for it if needed, been fiddling with these a lot for gestures recently in avastar :D

    • i will probably come up with some temporary solution

I won’t tell you anything new, but this is the same in any other field.
You’d think past teaches us anything, but no.
Disagree if you will but the world changes, and none of us have no control whatsoever over it.
For instance, imagine Barack had any balls to put Putin to his place, but it seems like it’s never happening, welcome third world war.
    Great post, thanks!
