– Battle Angel Alita is actually really good –

So i just watched the new Battle Angel Alita live action movie and damn was it good. Like, after watching the very first trailers that came out and seeing those really creepy big eyes, i was ready to hate the movie, but as hard as i tried, the movie won me over really fast.

It has really a good cast, all the characters play their part perfectly, and even the alien eyed main character was very likable and kept the movie moving forward. The visuals looked really pretty and all the CGI felt so natural when mixed in with all the real life stuff, it also had some of the most amazing action i have seen in a while, just too bad it was so brief and there was so little of it, maybe thats what made it so good? i dont know but i wanted more.

But anyway, It genuinely feels like a movie that came from the heart of people that really get it and care for the source material, not some cynical board of directors in business suit and ties, formulating it based on the normie focus group results. Its what the GITS live action movie should have been like, with its cynical pandering to normies who dont watch movies like that anyway. It does not take any unnecessary bullshit “creative liberties” and faithfully follows its source material, it brought back so many memories of the anime, now i wanna rewatch it and maybe even read the manga to see what happens next because i dont think it made enough money to warrant a sequel sadly :C

I think this movie would have made a lot more money if it wasnt for the downright bizarre choice to make her eyes so fucking huge and shapeless and wrinkly around them, why not just give her a pretty JRPG style face or better yet, why not just make her normal like EVERYONE ELSE around her so she wouldnt stand out like taken out of a different movie and slapped on top, and would blend in with the rest, and they would have saved a shit ton of money in the CGI department too !

Anyways, go see it, its a quality movie and you wont be bored.

– Ready Player One and how LL could improve SL –

So i just watched Ready Player one and it was a pretty fun movie, Its about this huge virtual reality MMO game like SL mixed with SAO and this generic main protagonist looking dude and his wacky friends trying to solve puzzles and get 3 keys to unlock some shit and win the ownership of the game world itself. While the evil EA corporation is throwing money into focus groups trying to solve the puzzle themselves to gain control of the game and shit it up with their loot boxes and micro transactions.
I dont get why nerds hate this movie so much because this movie is like every nerd’s wet dream, like i understand there were some really cringy geek out moments that felt really forced like that part where they were talking about golden eye on nintendo64. But its still a very enjoyable and surprisingly solid movie.
What kinda disappointed was that there were a bunch of big missed opportunity moments, like they could have made the main chick turn out to be a dude IRL, you know just like girl avatars are in real videogames. I think they kinda sort of wanted to do that but it would have offended all the good god loving christian folks in american and their dumb sensibilities, because in american folklore, the hero has to get the girl and all that cheesy shit and if there is no girl to get or the hero gets the guy, you will have a bunch of pissed off old people going all HURR MUH FAMILY VALUES HAVE BEEN SHATTERED BY THIS MOVIE!!!, so instead *spoilers* they made that big cyborg dude turn out to be an ugly fat chick IRL because that wont offend anyone.*spoilers*
As for the main girl, when she said “you wont like me irl, im ugly” i expected her to be, i dunno, at least chubby or something, but no she looks just as hot irl as her avatar, its really lame how safe they are trying to play even in places where they dont need to, no one would have minded her actually turning out not looking like a supermodel IRL.
Now for avatars themselves, it didnt lack variety in that department, there were all kinds of avatars, robots, elfs, orcs, pizza wizards and even fucking furriers, but not a single anime girl anywhere, have they not heard about VR chat? You can literally be anything you want in that game, but anime is off the table, so fuck you. Which is even more strange considering they had a gundam and the bike from akira and all that anime stuff in it.
Another missed opportunity is by nintendo itself for not licensing their characters to the movie, there was no iconic nintendo characters like mario with his blue and red overalls, red hat and mustache or metroid in his yellow armor with big round shoulders and green arm cannon or zelda with his pointy ears and green hat and sword or a single pokemen reference. Nintendo, if you want to still be relevant in the future, you should jump on opportunities like this nerd wankfest of a movie, you are a huge part of nerd culture and you have probably shaped the history of gaming more than anything else they showed in it, yet other than that cringy goldeneye reference, its like you never even existed, they could at least made the main hero wear the powerglove or something, but well i guess its true what they say, genesis does what nintendont. It was also strange to not see any storm troopers or darth vaders, although they did throw in a shit ton of verbal references to star trek like the millennium falcon and captain spock’s famous phrase “may the force be with you”  so i guess thats ok.

Its kind of ironic how all thsoe copyrighted characters in the movie mirror all the copyright infringment and game model rips on second life.
Oh yeah there were also some inconsistency with the time line by like 20 years, when JD Halliday played atari as a kid, we already had playstations by then.

Anyway, this movie is like second life and sword art online had a baby, It was a very fun and filled with fun pop corn munching action and, pop cullture references and tracer’s ass. I recomend seeing it, just dont watch it in 3D cuz it just makes it as hard to watch and recognize all the characters as a crappy low quality cam rip on the web

– Mesh bakes, reduced sim costs and my idea for SL –

Now speaking of swords art online and second life having a baby, you probably already heard the news but Linden labs are rolling out a bunch of new changes to SL. One of them is a new mesh feature that will allow loading LL avatar textures onto mesh objects, this is a big thing because now you will no longer need deal with tons of confusing applier systems just to load your skins or clothing layers onto your normie mesh bodies, you will be able to wear your LL skins, tattoos, alphas, on your mesh bodies straight from your inventory. How exactly it will work i do not yet know but if you are wondering if im going to implement that into any of my stuff, the answer is very yes!.

Another somewhat great news is that they are lowering the sim costs on mainalnd and moving the grid into a cloud based network, witch i think is a step in to the right direction that they should have taken ages ago. I say somehwat because lets face it, the 10% cost reduction is meaningless when sims still cost hundreads of dollars a month, no ones going to flock to mainland because its still way out of reach financially for most normal people, especially when you compare it to the monthly cost of running a game server witch is 40$. But i do hope that moving to the cloud will help them cut the costs enough for them to be able to lower the sim prices even more.

But if was LL, heres what i would have done in the first place:
Instead of throwing all my money and resources into dead end projects like desura, patterns and sansar, i would instead direct those resources into making SL a streamlined MMO game platform. Redo systems like character movement, vehicle system, combat, IK, pathfinding and AI, make it all work like in a real videogame.
Next step would be redoing the sim software to allow sim scalability so that you wouldnt be confined to 250×250 cube ion the middle of the sea, and price land based on scale.
Lets say a small island sized as 1/4 of our current sim sizes would cost you 15$ or whatever subscription fee premium users pay in MMO games.
Bigger plot of land for commercial purposes like shopping malls or small indie game projects would go from 40$ to 100$
And than we would have huge plots of land for big game companies to create their own MMO titles with a huge open worlds the size of games like skyrim or farcry, building their MMO experiences on top of the infrastructure provided by LL, it would go from 300$ to 1000$ or even more if the game is as massive as WOW.

So yeah that’s all.

– Anime Convention, Batman and some other things –

I was invited to the anime artist panel thing at the annual “Now Japan 2012” anime, cosplay and videogames convention, that takes place on August 18-19 where i will be drawing anime chicks and doing some other stuff (mostly just lazying around, checking out all the underage cosplayers in short skirts and inappropriately revealing outfits and hogging all the snacks, pretending im doing something useful, like i do every year when i go there :D)
Dunno what more to say about this, shit will be pretty boring and full off smelly weaboos for the most part. Furthermore, its really hot this summer so that doesn’t help either. But im looking forward to it anyway cuz, day time i will be treated as if im someone important :D, and at the night part im gonna be getting piss drunk and high at the afterparty with my bros, than come back all wasted next day, to the second half of the event, Hog some more snacks and draw a line or two on the computer screen, with all the underage fan girls gathered around with their eyes wide open, abusing japanese language “OMG KAWAII BAKA NEKO SUGOI DESU NE! :O” while watching me draw and giving me a bloated sense of self awesomeness haha.

Yeah and this next thing wasn’t big of a deal enough to make it into its own post i guess, but i have watched the new batman movie recently, i think its called “the dark knight rises” or something like that, it was pretty cool and i felt like i have something to say about it, as if my opinion was important, but i cant quite remember what it was.
Oh well, i will remember it half way through this post. So i went there with with my causally over hyped up friends, myself being full of preconceptions about the movie, rooting for it to blow ass and suck dick, so that i could point finger and say “HAHA! told you this movie will suck :D” You see, to me this movie seemed like one of those movies that deviated too far from its source material, just like micheal bay had no respect for the source material when he made thansformers or when hollywood made the american godzilla movie. Like bane for example, in this movie he looks nothing like the real bane, he is supposed to be a huge meat bulldozer that can smash brick walls with his head and has a spanish wrestler mask and green chemicals pumping into his back, making him grow bigger and stronger. The shitty 90s batman and robin movie was crap but at least it got bane right in that one. This dark knight bane however has nothing to do with the real bane apart from having the same name and a shitty mask. All in all, i have pictured the movie as a shitty attempt to cash in on a well known title. It looked like they didn’t even get the basics right, wheres the whole dark gothic batman atmosphere, wheres the gritty retro looking style city, wheres the fucking bat mobile, fuck, wheres batman himself?

On the left you see bane from batman, and on the right you see some skinny guy with a coat and a mask that is also for some reason called bane. (looks where not the only different thing about him, his personality was completely different too)

So i finally watched the movie And while it did deviate and cash in on the title like i expected, it didn’t make it a bad movie, to my huge surprise, it was a really good one :O, it would have stood really well on its own, even if it wasn’t called batman and the characters in the movie didn’t share the same names with characters from batman. Right off the bat, it started with some really interesting shit, and the way the whole plot went was really interesting too, usualy i root for the bad guys and i just don’t give a shit about what happens to the good guys, or even love it when the good guys get their ass kicked, because most media kinda fails to get me to care, or make the good guys any bit interesting. But not in this movie, here i was really not liking what the bad guys where doing, and i really wanted someone to stop them. Somewhere, half way through the movie, it managed to give me that sense of hopelessness and that everything was lost and it kept getting worst with every unexpected plot twist, i was thinking to myself, this cannot be happening D:, it cannot end like this. But okay i don’t wanna spoil anything, so yeah, the movie was awesome, i actually really liked the new bane too, i liked his voice and the way he talks and the things he does, bruce wane was cool, catwoman was a real bitch and i wanted to punch her half of the movie but her outfit was awesome and she looked good in it too, even robin was awesome. Oh what was kinda ridiculous and this is just off topic nitpicking from a design point of view was that they made batman’s bike a prop and not CGI, so everything on it was dangling and looking loose and cheep lol.

So yeah, go see the movie, its pretty cool.
And finally, here’s some news for you, i will be updating the CCD with some more stuff soon and i have already started animating rikugou, so it PROBABLY wont be long now xD.

have some more pics of bane

I recently watched a movie called The Raid and holy shit was i blown away by it :O

I was already hyped by it after seeing the first trailer, it was like a masterpiece in itself, and just like the trailer, the whole movie was in this “cut the crap and lets get to the point” style. There wasn’t much talking going on and there wasn’t much to say because the story is kinda bland and boring, but it was just an excuse for all the ass kicking and badassery that was going on. Right of the bat, a armed to the teeth swat team in an armored car comes in and shit hits the fan.

The gun fights where cool but the best part of the movie was all the melee fights in tight corridors,  now at this point in my life, i thought i have already seen everything, every action kung fu ass kicking movie there is and nothing can surprise me anymore, i was mistaking. Half of the movie, i watched with literally mouth open and brain full of fuck, trying to grasp wtf just happened. Every fight scene had at least 3 really creative ways to kick someones ass, all the crazy ass stunts and combat choreography and flow of the punches and blocks and stuff where like a work of art, i get why they call it martial arts.

Watch the trailer and get a glimpse of all that that awesome shit that was going on in there.

The only thing this movie Lacks is any kind of a meaningful story worth giving a fuck about, english speaking actors and that money printing hollywood polish, but all of its shortcomings greatly made up by all the immense ass kicking.
