– WIP – Anime body UVs –

The Anime Avatar UV, AAUV as i will be calling it, is done.


These are the problems this kind of UV solves:
* Maximizing the use of the available UV space for maximum skin detail and minimum stretching.
* Being as seamless as possible for ease of texturing using traditional means, no more unecesery pesky seams cutting in the middle of important and hard to align detail like the elbows in the LLUV.
* Grid uniformity, i modeled the body to follow a square grid as wherever is possible, this allowed for an easy square grid unwrap and this makes it very easy to add seamless tiling patterns such as fishnets or stripes (fishnets were a huge headache to do on the LLUV back when i used to make clothing texture layers.)
* Unlike the LLUV, left and right arms have their own UVs so you can do things like for example have a tattoo on just one arm, this also solves the need of 2 different skin textures loaded on both sides of the body like you had in the Kemono UV, both left and right sides of the body are now on same page and still makes a much more efficient use of the UV space and have higher texture detail than the Kemono could ever do.
* The upper and lower parts of the body are split into their own UV to make the correct use of the BOM system and also double the texture detail.
* Upper and lower textures can be joined into a single image when editing to ensure a seamless join and than split back up into 2 images when its done, the upper and lower edges are also duplicated into the opposite upper and lower parts of the of the 2 textures to ensure there is no wrap around texture bleeding causing a black line in the middle when zoomed out, anyone who made skins for the M4 heads will be familiar with this method of seam elimination, those who arent, basically you will need to copypaste a small strip of the connecting edge at the top/bottom of your texture when you are done with it (the areas are marked in a faintly in the images posted above)

Yeah, thats pretty much it for the UV stuff, just need to do a few small tweeks on the LLUV and the next step is stuff like flat chest and different neck options.

    Wouldn’t it still be more optimal to only use a half of that UV map? it looks perfectly mirrored and most skin creators won’t create 2 unique sides? but if they wanted could they just load a mirrored version to the other side for additional details?

    might be ever so slightly faster at loading in that way ?

    • no because of BOM, kemono got away with it cause it had the whole body on one page and one side of kemono was assigned to BOM upper and other side to BOM lower, if i did half of a skin in this body, it would be 4 textures in total and that’s 2 too many

        thanks for the explanation, yeah it might be a bit too fiddly for creators!

        speaking of kemono, I assume kemono lluv might never happen due to the complexities? if it can’t would you ever consider giving kemono a different new HD uvmap instead ?

      • yeah kemono geometry doesnt flow in the way to match in the areas where LLUV seams would be

  2. I’m not sure if it possible to make skins with this uvmap but I don’t know which one is fingers and arms on the top uvmap so maybe add labels to it?

      you weren’t supposed to look at this and use it to try make a skin by stabbing blindly in the dark.

      it’s a progress update! -WIP- means it might also change between now and whenever it’s finished.

    • if you open the pics in a new tab to see the full view and than use some logic and reasoning, it will be obvious where the fingers and arms are

    Looks like everything is coming along nicely.

    Just hoping that when it is done that it gets proper outfit support. There are so many things I have been wishing for the Kemono that never materialized as I lack the skills to create anything myself.
    Things such as silks, Egyptian style, demon outfits, proper nun, sci fi, cyberpunk and *cough* “adult” outfits and gear are just I can think of at the top of my head that I can hope for that the Kemono was under-supported in.

    now will this body be furry capable or is that something you plan on keeping to the kemono body i believe i read up there somewhere you said you were going to make a furry based add on or something for the furry player communities if im correct

    Seeing these updates is just fueling how much I really do hate the SLUV and how the issues with it could just be addressed in this way. Very excited to start making skins for this. I can’t wait to see what kinds of shapes I can make with this.

      Oh Cool …..might i ask then that you make it possible to have paw pads for flat feet as an option for the addon….some dont do digi legs but do still want the paws and claws options for feet and hands ….and currently there is next to nothing out there for kemono or uti based bodies in general in fact that provides these options
      so having those as either built into hud or as cosmetic addons for the bodies will help massively

    one thing I notice staring at the uv map! I assume the circles about 1/3 of the way down the top uv map are the fingernails ?

    looks like it’s currently allowing for a unique nail per hand but not per finger?

    be great if the nails loaded from their own texture but if that’s a no go would you consider maybe making each fingernail it’s own face for tinting purposes?

    (notice it’s seems same for the toes)

    • yeah it be like that for now, but theres gonna be add-on fingernails that can have their own texture per nail, for the base nails i want to keep it simple for people that just wanna drag and drop a texture on the body form their inventory without fucking everything up that wasnt the same texture or UV

    I was wondering if you are ok with people using your default textures on kemono and maybe heads as a base to significantly edit and resell?

    a suggestion regarding the fingernails …..why not make them like the ears of the m4 venus ….make it possible to have claws or human fingernails this would lend to a lot of fixes with regards to both nail textures and such and also provide more demon devil type character possibilities with the body

    excellent, these look very clean. In regards to SLUV/normie tattoo support, are you going to ditch it completely or are you going to have it be like how other bodies do it (a tattoo layer, if you will). Either way, I’m excited to see how the final product turns out.
